In 1987, John Andretti entered the first league of the American open-wheel racing, the CART Indy Car World Series. He competed in the Formula Vee, Can-Am Series, USAC Sprint Car Series, but his main focus laid in the IMSA GTP Championship in which he debuted in 1984, driving the A-B Engineering's Argo JM16-Ford. Michael's son Marco (born 1987) and John's son Jarett (born 1992) are also racers. John's brother Adam is much younger, having been born in 1979. John was born on March 12, 1963, in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, a year after Mario's son Michael (1962) and a year before Mario's other son Jeff (1964).
